EXECUTIVE ORDER BY THE GOVERNOR: WHEREAS: WHEREAS: WHEREAS: ORDERED: ORDERED: The State of Georgia is rightfully very proud of the significant contributions made by women throughout the state’s history; and Mary Musgrove, Queen of the Creeks; Juliette Gordon Low, founder of the Girl Scouts of the USA; Flannery O’Connor and Margaret Mitchell, award—winning authors; and Coretta Scott-King, civil rights heroine, are just a few of the remarkable women who called Georgia home; and It is fitting and proper to honor the lives and talents of the women who are giants of Georgia history. Now, THEREFORE, BY VIRTUE OF THE POWER VESTED IN ME AS GOVERNOR OF THE STATE OF GEORGIA, IT IS HEREBY That there is created the Georgia Women’s Garden to be located on the upper terrace of Plaza Park on Capitol Hill in Atlanta. IT IS FURTHER That the Georgia Women’s Garden Commission be composed of five (5) members. Of the five (5) members, three (3) shall be appointed by the Governor of Georgia, one (1) shall be appointed by the Lieutenant Governor and one (1) shall be appointed by the Speaker of the House of Representatives.
