The State of Georgia holds title to certain improved real property located in the city of Cave
Spring, Floyd County, Georgia (the “Property”) by virtue of a September 11, 1979 quitclaim deed
from the Georgia Education Authority (Schools), successor in law to the State School Building
Authority, recorded in Floyd County Office of the Clerk of Superior Court in Deed Book 850,
Pages 348-350; and
The Property is improved with those separate buildings and facilities collectively known as the
“Georgia School for the Deaf’ (the “School”) and are identified on Exhibit “A”, attached hereto and
incorporated herein by reference; and
Said Property is in the custody of the Georgia Department of Education; and
Building #6 (Pritchett Building), Building #53 (Male Dormitory), Building #57 (Weight
Room/Field House), and Building #6 (Director’s Residence) of the School (the “Structures”) were
found by the Georgia Department of Education to be in disrepair, and of no future value to the
Department, and were declared by the State Superintendent of Schools to be demolished; and
The State Superintendent of Schools in a letter dated January 15, 2013, requested that the State
Properties Commission seek an Executive Order from the Governor to allow for the razing,
demolition, and disposal of the Structures as in the best_interest of the State of Georgia; and
The Georgia Department of Education has funding available to raze and demolish and dispose of
said Structures.
NOW, THEREFORE, PURSUANT TO THE AUTHORITY VESTED IN ME AS
GOVERNOR OF THE STATE OF GEORGIA, IT IS HEREBY
The Georgia Department of Education is hereby authorized and directed to provide for the razing,
demolition and disposal of said Structures under the terms and conditions which are deemed to be in
the best interests of the State of Georgia.
