EXECUTIVE ORDER BY THE GOVERNOR: WHEREAS: WHEREAS: WHEREAS: ORDERED: FLAGS ON STATE BUILDINGS AND GROUNDS ORDERED LOWERED TO HALF STAFF Along with her family and friends, the citizens of the United States mourn the death of former First Lady, Betty Ford; and Mrs. Ford set new precedents for First Ladies by participating in social policy and being a politically active presidential wife; and Mrs. Ford was the recipient of the Presidential Medal of Freedom, a Congressional Gold Medal, and numerous other awards and accolades. Now, THEREFORE, IN HONOR AND AS A MARK OF RESPECT FOR THE MEMORY OF ELIZABETH “BETTY” BLOOMER FORD, PURSUANT TO THE AUTHORITY VESTED IN ME AS GOVERNOR OF THE STATE OF GEORGIA, IT IS HEREBY That the flag of the United States and the flag of the great State of Georgia be flown at half-staff on all state buildings and grounds On Tuesday, July 12, 2011, the day of her funeral, until sunset.
